More on lower entrance gates

FROM JAMIE GERLOFF —

Lower Entrance Security Gate begins operation January ‘26

We are pleased to announce that the new security gate at the lower entrance has been fully installed and will begin operation the first week of January. This upgrade is an important step in enhancing community safety and keeping your beautiful lake private. To ensure uninterrupted access, all property owners must return the gate access form as soon as possible to receive credentials.

Access Options

We strongly encourage households to use mobile access. The Avigilon Alta app allows you to create guest passes, remotely open the gate, and manage access easily. Cards are an optional add on.

Once your form is processed, you will receive an email invitation to download the app. Please be sure to enable “allow all access all the time” so the mobile pass works in proximity to the reader. (Cards will be mailed in early December or when deposits are received.)

Gate Use

  • At the entrance gate, slow/stop at the first reader and wait until the gate arm begins to rise.

  • A call button is available for those needing assistance or for unplanned guests. Guests to homes will be instructed to contact the property owner for entry. As always, members without homes must be on the property for their guests.

  • Exit gate will open automatically when approached slowly.

Vendors

We are creating an approved vendor list for regular service providers. Please contact the office to add any repeat service companies. Otherwise they will use the button.

Training

All property owners are invited to a gate and app training session at the 12/15/25 Association Meeting at the lodge, 6:30 pm.

Thank you for your cooperation as we launch this improvement for the community.

25 Christmas Day — Christian holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

26 Boxing Day (British Commonwealth countries) harks back to when lords of the manor and aristocrats typically distributed “Christmas boxes” often filled with small gifts, money and leftovers from Christmas dinner to their household servants and employees,

…and the first day of Kwanzaa, an annual celebration of African-American and Pan-African heritage, community, and values, observed from December 26 to January 1

The light show at the lake Nov. 12

Missouri and Illinois residents were treated to a rare spectacle as powerful geomagnetic storms light up skies across the state with the aurora borealis — more commonly known as the northern lights.

A geomagnetic storm happens when charged particles from the sun’s atmosphere collide with Earth’s magnetic field. In addition to creating dazzling curtains of color, these storms can disrupt technology on Earth, from satellites and GPS systems to radio communications and the power grid.

On that night, the skies glowed with ribbons of pink and green — more easily visible in rural areas than cities like St. Louis and Kansas City. The colorful show stems from coronal mass ejections, massive bursts of plasma and magnetic energy from the sun’s outer atmosphere that expand as they race toward Earth.

December birthstone

December’s traditional birthstone is turquoise. It is considered a symbol of good fortune and success. Zircon and tanzanite are also considered to be December birthstones.

… And birth flower

December’s birth flowers are the holly (Ilex aquifolium) and the paperwhite Narcissus (Narcissus papyraceus)—a relative of the daffodil with lovely white blooms.

New guidelines for lake construction

An addition to requirements for building approval has been added regarding water drainage around planned construction. Since much drainage occurs on Peaceful Valley owned property around buildings (i.e. roads, ditches and natural drainage areas), the Board of Directors have added the following:

A complete set of drawings now includes “watershed mechanisms to spec of engineer (proper culvert and ditch requirements must be met).”

Further, “Any property owner or contractor proposing to install, replace, or modify a culvert or drainage structure within or across a community ditch, drainage easement, or right-of-way must obtain written approval…”

“All culvert installations shall be designed, reviewed, and approved by a licensed professional engineer at the property owner’s expense…”

New guidelines with more detail will be posted to the web and available in the office after January 1, 2026.

Winter Solstice, Dec.21

The month of December brings the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. This is the shortest day of the year (the day with least amount of daylight).

The Solstice is the exact moment when a hemisphere is tilted as far away from the Sun as possible. Another way to think of this is that on the day of the solstice, the Sun’s path reaches its most southerly point in the sky. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, this means that the Sun’s path is as low in the sky as it can get—even at “high noon.”
