The picture above is from 2022, when the spillway looked like the Grand Canyon! Right shows 2025 build-up of debris at the breakwater from this year’s rainy season. Since it is too dangerous to clear the debris, board member Don Deitrich said rising water will soon send it over the weir.

Heads up for summer season!
4th of July: Fireworks are planned for Friday, July 25th. if you wish to help during the event or donate funding, contact Tom Bush or Jamie Gerloff in the office.
Dogs must be either leashed or fenced according to the community rule book. There are documented recent instances of loose, unaccompanied dogs attacking other pets and people. Refer to new rules regarding penalties.Homeowners are responsible for your visitors who bring dogs, especially aggressive ones.
Boat storage area: Work has begun to expand the area for temporary storage of registered boats and trailers. Clearing and graveling will make the area about 1/3rd larger. Please be aware that the storage area is not for long-term storage of other sorts of vehicles, especially those with non-current or no registration identifications. See rules regarding penalties.
New boaters at Peaceful Valley: Please be sure to read the boating rules in your member handbook. Because, as traffic gets dense on weekends and holidays, everyone’s safety is important:
— All surface craft travel in a counter-clockwise loop, toward the dam on the Lake Shore side of the lake, and away from the dam on the Woodson side. Sounds draconian, but wait ‘til you’re here on a beautiful weekend!
— If someone falls off your watercraft, or off a towed float, be sure to wave a red flag indicating “people-in-the-water.” The flag should be on board at all times. Especially during dense traffic periods, boaters and wave runners in the vicinity slow down until those in the water are safe.
— Have your operator certification on board at all times. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) does regulate the lake because it is part of a managed watershed. Officials stop by occasionally to check registrations and certifications — even for those who reside out of state.

Members at the Annual Meeting voted in two new board members: Christopher Berry and Matt Leach. New officers were also elected at the May board meeting: Brian Tharp, Vice President, and Sherri Durbin, Secretary. Their contact information is on the website if you wish to congratulate them!

Juno is the ancient Roman goddess of marriage and childbirth. The month is a popular month for weddings even today. As a natural extension of marriage, Juno was also the goddess of childbirth.
June 11 — This month’s full moon, called the Strawberry Moon, reaches peak illumination at 10:41 pm (CDT) that evening. Typically the last full Moon of spring or the first of summer, June’s moon has traditionally been called the “Strawberry Moon”from Native American Algonquian tribes that live in the northeastern United States, as well as the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples to mark the ripening of “June-bearing” strawberries that are ready to be gathered. While strawberries certainly are a reddish-pink color and are roundish in shape, the origin of the name has nothing to do with the Moon’s hue or appearance. A Moon usually appears reddish when it’s close to the horizon because the light rays must pass through the densest layers of the atmosphere.
June 14 — Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the official flag of the United States of America, June 14, 1777, by the Second Continental Congress. Raise the flag!
June 15 — Fathers Day. Founded in Spokane, Washington, at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, marking the day was inspired by Mother’s Day. Its first celebration was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910. Dodd’s father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised six children there. It became an official national holiday April 24, 1972, signed into law by President Richard Nixon for the third Sunday in June.
June 19 — Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day). On this day in 1865, Union General Gordon Granger read the Emancipation Proclamation aloud in Galveston, Texas, effectively liberating enslaved people in the state. Texas had thus far been beyond control of the Union Army.
June 20 — Summer solstice heralds the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s the day with the most hours of daylight. In the Southern Hemisphere, winter begins at this time — with the fewest hours of daylight.
June 24— Midsummer Day, also St. John the Baptist’s Feast Day. Traditionally, this was the midpoint of the growing season, halfway between planting and harvesting. It is celebrated in many cultures on the night of June 23, as Midsummer’s Eve — a time associated with a blend of folklore, ancient traditions, and Christian religious observance, often involving bonfires, dancing, and feasting.

New fee schedule and policy for rules violations:
PVPOA is committed to maintaining a harmonious and well-maintained community for all residents. To uphold community standards and ensure the enjoyment and safety of all residents, the PVPOA has established a fee schedule for rule violations. This policy outlines the fees associated with various rule violations and the procedures for enforcing them.
II. Fee Schedule for Rule Violations:
A. Non-Compliance Fees:
1. First Violation:Written Warning
2. Second Violation: $50
3. Third Violation:$250
4. Subsequent Violations: Revocation of member privileges
III. Enforcement Process:
1. Notice of Violation: When a rule violation is observed or reported, the PVPOA will provide a written notice to the violator, specifying the nature of the violation and a reasonable time frame for compliance.
2. Opportunity to Cure: The violator will be given an opportunity to correct the violation within the specified time frame. If the violation is corrected within this period, no fees will be imposed.
3. Imposition of Fees: If the violation is not corrected within the specified time frame, the fees outlined in the fee schedule will be imposed.
4. Appeals Process: Residents have the right to appeal fee assessments. Details of the appeals process can be found at the end of this document.
IV. Collection of Fees: All fees imposed for rule violations will be added to the violator's PVPOA account and must be paid within 30 days of the assessment. Failure to pay these fees may result in additional enforcement actions, including legal action or a lien on the violator's property.

Find them a stack of Bibles, and some Alabama fishermen will swear Toad Smith once used a piece of his own heart to catch a blue catfish. “When he had heart bypass surgery, Ol’ Toad asked the doctor to save a piece of heart that had been removed,” recalls John Phillips of Fairfield, Alabama, author of Masters’ Secrets of Catfishing. “Well, Toad put it into a jar with some Berkley’s Strike, a real strong-smellin’ catfish lure. As soon as he was well enough, he baited up a couple of hooks with pieces of his heart, and before you know it, snap, a blue cat takes the bait. Toad bragged for years he was the only man in America to catch a fish with his own heart.”

Grove, Alabama. Dejected but not defeated, he scooped up a dead ‘possum from the side of the road near his cabin, cut the freshly killed marsupial into bite-size chunks, and baited his lines. “Don’t you just know the ‘possum meat caught more and bigger catfish than any of his regular baits?”
Like Fields, highly-rated fishing guide Lomax Dunham found himself without bait one day on Alabama’s Lake Martin. “We ran out of minnows and crickets, but I had a bag of marshmallows on the boat,” Dunham recalls. “We baited our lines with marshmallows and caught lots of fish.” Dunham has been known to catch boatloads of catfish on unusual baits.
Dunham is also a believer in Ivory Soap as bait. He says he “cut it up in small cubes and left it in the water on our weighted lines overnight.” But Mike Bolton, outdoors editor of The Birmingham News, says that Ivory Soap pales in comparison to Palmolive Gold. Bolton went fishing with Jimmy Bedwell, a barber from Livingston, Alabama, who melts down whole cases of the fragrant golden soap in black, cast-iron pots in his backyard. “You have to get the soap soft enough to sink your hooks into it. Put out your lines, and when you come back the next day, they’ll be full of catfish,” promises Bolton.
