Lower entrance gates installed

But, no fear! You will be a pro in no time!  The lower gate is operational and access system is installed and working. The arms will be left open until you are notified of implementation. The target is for everyone to have access credentials and to start using the gate by January 2026. Those on the Woodson side will still be able to get in the upper entrance if there are any issues.

Entrance will be via Mobile Access card (in smart phone) and/or smart card (issued with $35 deposit). Board members will be able to assist with any issues by the end of November. When the gates go down, for your comfort, someone will be available to help you directly through the call box at the gate.

The exit gate (left in the picture) opens automatically via a sensor in the road.

In the mean time, Chris Barry, working on software and testing functionality, said, ”I drove down to the gate to verify and I love how I didn’t have to reach out of the vehicle or anything. I’m very excited to get this rolling!”

All members will receive direction to acquire a form, from the Peaceful Valley office, to begin the process of gaining access information and/or cards. If you do not hear from the office by mid November, CLICK HERE. Send the form back as instructed.

Wastewater treatment almost on line

From Mike Garlock, President of the Board, Public Water Supply District #1 (PWSD #1) — Construction on the new Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) is virtually complete and system tests are ongoing. Full-scale operation should occur in the coming weeks. Customers should not notice any difference in their service, but the new facility will now meet the EPA-mandated requirements.

The PWSD has some excess grant funding that must be used or it will be forfeited. Unfortunately, these funds cannot be applied to the construction cost, but they can be used for other costs associated with the waste water treatment facility. We already moved forward with paving of the road leading to the facility to prevent future road washout problems.  We are currently pursuing bids for potential solar panel installation, a storage building, and spare parts and equipment for the new facility.

Loan payments for the new facility began in August, per USDA requirements. The annual cost just to service the loans and reserve funds is $107,000. There will also be increased operating costs for electricity, operations, administration, sludge removal, etc. A letter will be sent out soon providing details, but homeowners will incur an increase to their water/sewer bill (beginning in Jan '26) to address the increased costs. The increase will not cover all the anticipated new costs, but since some of the costs are estimated the board decided to limit the increase to see how actual costs come in.

November days to mark

1 — All Saints’ Day and Sadie Hawkins Day

Sadie Hawkins Day is an American folk event and pseudo-holiday originated by Al Capp's hillbilly comic strip Li'l Abner (1934–1977). The annual comic strip inspired real-world Sadie Hawkins events, breaking cultural code as women asked men for a date or dancing - pictured in the comic as women running around chasing men.

"Sadie Hawkins Day" was introduced in the comic strip Nov. 15, 1937; the story ran until the beginning of December.

It was revisited the following Oct./Nov. and inspired a fad on college campuses. By 1939, Life reported that 201 colleges in 188 cities held a Sadie Hawkins Day event. (from wikipedia.org)

2 — 2 A.M. is the end of Daylight Saving Time. Set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night at bedtime!

4 — Election Day Don’t forget to vote!

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Missourians go to the polls Nov. 4.

Only a few counties will decide races and issues, with limited questions on the ballots featuring school, county, and citywide issues. (Gasconade County is not on the list. If you live in other areas, go to your county clerk’s office for issues, sample ballots.)

11— Veterans Day

An Act approved May 13, 1938, made the 11th of November in each year a legal holiday—a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as “Armistice Day.” Armistice Day was primarily a day set aside to honor Veterans of World War I.

In 1954, after World War II had required the greatest mobilization of soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen in the Nation’s history; after American forces had fought aggression in Korea, the 83rd Congress, at the urging of the Veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word “Armistice” and inserting in its place the word “Veterans.” With the approval of this legislation June 1, 1954, November 11th became a day to honor American Veterans of all wars. 27 — Happy Thanksgiving Day! (The day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 28 this year, is known as Black Friday)

30 — First Sunday of Advent on the Christian calendar

Nov. 23 — Fibonacci Day

Fibonacci Day, an annual holiday, honors one of the most influential mathematicians of the Middle Ages - Leonardo Bonacci.

It is celebrated because when the date is written in the mm/dd format (11/23), the digits in the date form a Fibonacci sequence: 1,1,2,3. A Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where a number is the sum of the two numbers before it. For example: 1, 1, 2, 3...is a Fibonacci sequence.

The Rabbit Question

One of the biggest accomplishments of Leonardo of Pisa, came from a puzzle about rabbit population. In his book Liber acaci, Fibonacci posed this puzzle: if there are a pair of newly born rabbit - male and female in the field - and if they are able to produce another pair of rabbits in their second month of life, how many pairs of rabbits will be there after a year?

Born in 1170 in Pisa, Italy, Fibonacci was also responsible for making the Hindu-Arabic numerals popular in Europe. In Liber acaci he advocated the use of these numerals, explained the use of zero, provided ways to convert between currencies and different measurements, and described how to calculate interest.

Fibonacci in Nature

One of the beauties of the Fibonacci sequence is that the series is evident all over the natural world. Petal arrangements in flowers, ordering of leaves in plants, shell of the nautilus, DNA molecule and even hurricanes show patterns corresponding to the sequence.

Mid October, Gary Brauks and Doug August released crappie fries into Peaceful Valley Lake for the third stocking since fall 2024 (fall, spring, fall). The fingerlings are released at both marinas and the beach. Watch for more information about stocking and lake habitat improvement in the December Splash.

Watch for another super moon for 2025!

November’s Full Beaver Super-moon reaches peak illumination on Wed., Nov. 5, 2025. This is the closest Supermoon of the year.

When to See it

The Beaver Moon reaches peak illumination Wed., Nov. 5, 7:19 am CST. It will be below the horizon at that time, so be sure to look for it on the evenings of Nov. 4 and 5.

November’s Full Moon is called the Beaver Moon.  because, in the colonial era, this was the month to set one’s beaver traps before the swamps froze and beavers retired to their lodges. That timely trapping ensured a supply of warm winter furs for people through the winter.

Autumn Fires

In the other gardens
And all up in the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
   See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over,
   And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
   The grey smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
   Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
   Fires in the fall!
