Fireworks are back!

The Tom Bush 4th of July fireworks to honor all those here and passed — and 4th of July, of course — will be launched from his house after the close of Oktoberfest Sept 27th. He lives on the long leg of the lake, so best place to watch would be the picnic area at the lower entrance.

People can watch from decks and watercraft. (If you are out on the water, be sure to have operational navigation lights and a fire extinguisher.) You won’t see much from the beach or the gazebo, but the dam will also be a good place, just a bit more distant.

In case you missed it,  fireworks were called off for weather on 4th of July weekend this year. This event will be a welcome rerun for everyone — and probably better temperature for admiring the show, too

Peaceful Social Night

Even though it was lightly attended, the first Social Night at the Lodge was well received Saturday, Aug. 16. People engaged in great conversations, many laughs and lots of great ideas for upcoming events.

In the future, maybe more people will participate in events to draw more neighbors and friends. A food truck was mentioned as well as membership events like a children’s Easter Egg hunt, a Halloween spook, and an adult pool party. All ideas and energy to make them happen are welcome!

Any new/other gathering for September is eclipsed by the Oktoberfest, of course. People will gather there for return of a customary event, thanks to Randy Fuller and friends.

PS: Interested in a Women's Club here in Peaceful? If you are, please email Cathy August.

GOOD NEWS: Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR) on the Statewide Lake Assessment Program (SLAP)

University of Missouri – Limnology Laboratory

Prepared by: Mayra Velasquez & Christopher Kalogeris

Overall, Peaceful Valley showed healthy water quality conditions during summer 2024. Peaceful Valley’s water quality in 2024 was better than the statewide average.

Water clarity was high throughout the season. The lake's trophic status, based on Secchi depth (water clarity indicator), was mesotrophic, indicating moderate nutrient levels and phytoplankton/algal biomass.

When looking at the depths of Secchi readings, Peaceful Valley ranked #8 out of 55 Missourian lakes, showing deeper (and clearer) water readings than the other lakes sampled in 2024. Regarding long term trends, no statistical significance was found, indicating that water quality has stayed relatively the same since 2020.

(FYI, Lake of the Ozarks is #10 and Mark Twain is #13)

Sept. 22 officially starts the fall season

This year’s Autumnal Equinox occurs at 2:19 pm EDT (1:19 pm CDT). On this date there are approximately equal hours of daylight and darkness.

Hailing the fall harvest season before the official day, September’s full moon, the Corn Moon or Harvest Moon, reaches peak illumination Sunday, September 7, at 2:09 pm EDT (1:09 pm CDT).

Late summer into early fall corresponds with the time of harvesting corn in much of the northern United States. For this reason, a number of Native American peoples traditionally used some variation of the name “Corn Moon” to refer to the Moon of either August or September.

Sept. Flowers & Gems

This month’s flowers are Asters and Morning Glories, assigning loyal love, affection, peace and harmony.

Sapphire is the birthstone, symbolizing truth, sincerity, and faithfulness. The gem has been associated with royalty, wisdom, and protection, historically worn by oracles and clergy.
