| |  | REPEAT: waste services and recycling
Members at Peaceful Valley Lake are obliged to handle household waste using a sanitation service, including bulk item removal. Any municipality would expect the same. The board is considering bulk pick up days a few times per year. More on that soon.
There are two weekly household trash service companies that service the lake, RT Sanitation out of Belle, MO ( https://www.rtswasteservices.com/ ) and Swinger Sanitation out of Cuba, MO ( https://www.facebook.com/Swingersanitation/ ).
RTS 573.552.7076: Provide weekly pickup at $20 per month with your can; $25 if they provide their can; $40 for one-time bulk pickup, per truckload (even with rim of truck bed); they may have other prices and requirements for specific hauling, including no hazardous waste, yard waste, cement or tires. Call them for specifics and pricing.
Swinger 573.885.7596: Provide weekly pickup at $26 per month with your can, billed quarterly; $30 per month with their can, billed quarterly; If you have smaller bulk items like mattresses, box springs, toilets, they can pick up, but may be an extra charge. Call them for specifics and pricing.
RECYCLING The board is asking for volunteers for community-level organized recycling. Contact Brian Tharp at 660-787-0058 or by email at [email protected] if you would like to join the effort.

|  | | Parking on nice grassy spots?
Please be aware, areas that are mowed that do not belong to a private lot, are not free parking spaces. You prevent the lake mowing contractor from doing their job and may block maintenance work. You also may damage community efforts to present well.
The PWSD would like to remind people to especially refrain from parking on land surrounding the lift station. It is not lake community property, but rather private land belonging to the water supply district.
We have had issues this summer with vehicles parked in the area, which prevents mowing portions of the grass. Vehicles also block maintenance access, especially if there is an emergency.

| (NEXSTAR) — Sky watchers in the northern U.S. could get another glimpse of the northern lights this week! NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) issued a geomagnetic storm watch Monday, July 29, after an active weekend of space weather.
Late Sunday, the SWPC noted that a strong solar flare, reaching X1.5 strength, had been observed and had the potential to impact Earth. While not as strong as the X5 flare reported earlier this year, it was one of the strongest in 2024.
The sun is currently going through a solar cycle, an 11-year period in which it flips its poles. As it reaches the peak of the cycle, the sun also becomes far more active. The best part? It doesn’t seem that we’ve reached the peak of Solar Cycle 25.
We may not reach solar maximum for a few months yet, Mark Miesch, a researcher with NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, tells Nexstar. He also notes that more strong solar storms are expected through the rest of this year, throughout 2025, and potentially even into 2026. |

Long time residents here are experiencing interlopers in their storage slots for boats and trailers.
Be aware that the numbers on each slot belong to people, assigned through the office. They routinely remove their trailered boats to put them in/pull them out of the water expecting to store the trailer in their slot for the summer.
Further, any boats and/or trailers in the storage area need to have lot numbers affixed to both, just like any vehicle in the community.

Sounds carry over water! Please be aware that music, conversations and exclamations can be heard far and wide, both from properties facing the lake and from any vessel on the water.
Loud music and music with adult-only content have entertained nearly everyone’s ears, whether they like it or not, especially on weekends.
Please be aware of other members of the community as you entertain yourself. You have a broad spectrum of neighbors, child to senior, who may be cringing. They deserve your consideration.

Please keep an eye out for otters, beavers and muskrats. They can be destructive at the dam and around shores and seawalls.

August 4- New Moon- The Moon will be located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 11:15 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere.
August 12, 13- Perseids Meteor Shower- The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, with up to 60 meteors per hour at its peak. Produced by comet Swift-Tuttle, it was discovered in 1862. The Perseids are famous for producing many bright meteors. The shower runs annually from July 17 to August 24. It peaks this year on the night of August 11 and the morning of August 12. The first quarter moon will block out some of the fainter meteors in the early evening. But the Moon will set shortly after midnight leaving dark skies for what could be an excellent early morning show.
August 19- Full Moon, Blue Moon- The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 18:27 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Sturgeon Moon because the large sturgeon fish of the Great Lakes and other major lakes were more easily caught at this time of year.This moon has been known as the Green Corn Moon and Grain Moon.
Since this is the third of four full moons in this season, it is known as a blue moon. This rare calendar event only happens once every few years, giving rise to the term, “once in a blue moon.” Blue moons occur, on average, once every 2.7 years. |

If you’re in the Northeast and Midwest, snow will arrive beginning in November, with storms, showers, and flurries continuing through the start of spring.
Along with above-normal snow, the Almanac predicts normal to colder-than-normal temperatures in areas that typically receive snow. Only snowy New England and the Atlantic Corridor will enjoy winter temperatures milder than typical for their regions. |

Though the days are beginning to shorten, the soil is warmer than it was in May, so seeds sown now will germinate much faster.
Which Vegetables to Grow As the weather cools, plant crops that are cold-tolerant and mature quickly. Salad greens are fast and hardy; leaf lettuces are ready to cut in 45 to 50 days. Looseleaf and butterhead leaves can be harvested at any time in their development.
— A quick crop of radishes will be ready salad bowls in 25 days. — Other root crops, like carrots and beets, will take longer but are worth the wait since they seem to get sweeter as the days get cooler. — Fall-planted spinach does better than spring-planted. It matures during cool weather. — Swiss chard is another hardy green that reaches an edible size in 25 to 30 days. — Broccoli and kohlrabi mature well in cool weather and will not be bothered by cabbage moths — Kale is a winter staple. Try blue-green ‘Winterbor’ or pretty purple ‘Redbor.’ They can be harvested long after other greens have been killed by cold weather. — Snap peas and snow peas start to bear in 60 days, and peas that mature in cold weather seem especially sweet and crisp. Pea vines can survive temperatures down to 25 degrees.
